Key Features:
- Triple Scale Convenience:
- This refractometer features three scales:
- Brix Scale: Measures the sugar content in your solution (ideal for wine and kombucha).
- Specific Gravity (SG) Scale: Provides a common value used in beer making.
- Potential Alcohol Scale: Estimates the alcohol content based on sugar levels.
- With just one tool, you can cover all aspects of your brewing process.
- This refractometer features three scales:
- Instant Gravity Readings:
- Say goodbye to cooling large samples for hydrometer readings.
- The Brix-Plato Refractometer allows you to take instant gravity readings with just a single drop of your brew.
- Use it during the boil, sparge, or any point in the process to adjust water levels or boiling time for precise gravity control.
- Designed for home brewers
- One of the biggest problem of beer brewers is that how to cool down 250-500ml of wort for taking hydrometer reading. This refractometer needs just 2 drops that can be cooled easily for taking instant reading and saves time. Timely intervention during wort making is the key for high grain mashing efficiency.
- Wine makers, Kombucha and Cider brewers face the problem of checking the ripeness of the fruit. Ripe fruits are high on brix level. SInce the traditional aroma and sweet taste tests can be misleading esp for sour non-tropical fruits we recommend BRIX test. However juicing 250ml at the mandi/wholeseller/farm for testing gravity with hydrometer is not practical, just squeezing two drops with a refractometer is the way to go to get instant sugar reading and test the ripeness of the fruit.
Why Use a Refractometer?
- Target Gravities: Achieve your desired target gravities without guesswork.
- Efficiency Optimization: Adjust water levels or boil times during the process for consistent results.
- Stuck Fermentation Prevention: Monitor yeast health and prevent stuck fermentations.
Technical Specifications:
- Brix Scale: 0 to 32%
- Specific Gravity (SG) Scale: 1.000 to 1.120
- Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): Works in an ambient temperature range of 50-86°F (10-30°C). The biggest problem with hydrometer is that they are calibrated for 20 degree Celsius. Now cooling the liquid to exactly 20 degrees in a kitchen is often difficult. hence the refractometer.
- Comes with
- Carry Case
- Pipette
- Calibration Screw Driver
Calibration and Accuracy:
- Our refractometer comes with a manual calibration knob secured with a lock nut.
- To calibrate, place a drop of distilled water on the testing platform and adjust to zero if necessary.
Geeky Accuracy Note:
- Unlike some dual-scale refractometers that approximate SG by multiplying Brix by 4 (accurate up to a certain point), our unit provides precise SG readings across the entire gravity range.
